I started where you are now

Being an academic, clinician, or researcher is wonderful. Until it isn’t. Until we feel invisible. Jaded. Exhausted. There comes a point for many of us when we are ready to find professional work that offers more autonomy and flexibility.

I’ve been in your shoes.

After 20 years as a nurse and academic, I left my role at a top-tier university, burned out, and disillusioned. Then I discovered continuing medical education/continuing education for health professionals (CME/CE).

Having banked years of deep expertise in teaching, research, and writing, I launched Write Medicine courses, community, and coaching to provide new-to-the-field and CME-curious medical writers with the skills, support, and scaffolding to successfully launch a new path as a CME/CE writer.

CLINICIAN

I trained as a nurse in Scotland (about 100 years ago 😀) and was a trauma operating room nurse for many years.

ACADEMIC

For a decade, I served as faculty at the Universities of Edinburgh and Aberdeen, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses on the sociology of the body, gender, and health and medicine.

RESEARCHER

I’ve designed and conducted several qualitative research studies and written curricula, grants, books, and research papers.
